Our Teachers

Micki “Padma” Higgins

E-RYT 500, Professional Master Level, CKYT, CDYT, LVCYT, CKKYT, CPYT, AYC ,   Certified Discovery Yoga Teacher Trainer - RYS ,  YACEP

Micki "Padma" first became interested in yoga at the age of 56 while watching an Oprah show in April of 2001 featuring yoga for stress relief with Rodney Yee. This began her personal life changing and healing journey.

What began as a "once in a while stress relief class" became a passion for the practice of yoga. Through the guidance of her first teacher, Eryn Boudreau, she began teacher training in 2003, graduating in 2004 from Discovery Yoga, St. Augustine,FL, ultimately receiving a 200 hour certification in Discovery and Kripalu Yoga from Deva Parnell.

Since that time Micki has continued her personal growth studying with nationally known teachers and also attending many workshops and seminars. Micki has now completed her 500-hour Master Level professional certification at Discovery Yoga with Christopher Baxter and has since completed the required hours teaching to receive the E-RYT 500 status. In early 2007, Micki found it increasingly difficult to continue in her "regular" job and also teach yoga. Listening to her inner voice, she took a leap of faith and retired early at age 62 to teach yoga full time. She has never regretted that decision.

In November 2009 Micki opened "Padma Yoga", a center for yoga, health and wellness, at 5 Utility Drive, Ste.# 15, in Palm Coast, FL 32137

"I am always a student first, learning from other teachers and also from my own students whom I am privileged to teach and guide. Yoga has been a true transformation for me.  Sharing the gifts of knowledge my teachers have given me and helping others to make positive changes in their lives through yoga is my priority.

Thanks to all my teachers who have so generously shared their knowledge.

I extend my gratitude to Deva Parnell, Christopher Baxter and Discovery Yoga for caring and teaching me in the ways of a teacher.

Thanks to my students, past and present, for caring about yourselves and allowing me to help you on your healing journey of yoga. I have learned so much from all of you.

And a very special thank you to Eryn Boudreau for the gentle "push" and seeing in me what I could not. I will always be grateful to you, my first teacher. You hold a special place in my heart. Namaste.'

Peace and Love to all,

Micki "Padma"

Beverly Chandler

Discovery Yoga  CYT- ERYT- 200

Kripalu Tradition

Beverly Chandler is a Kripalu Tradition yoga instructor who earned her certification at Discovery Yoga in St. Augustine, Florida.

Although Beverly practiced yoga on and off during the past ten years, she remained steadfast and consistent in her lifelong interest in health, nutrition and spiritual wellness and generously shared her knowledge and skill with others during her journey.

But it was her discovery of Kripalu yoga and subsequent teacher training in the discipline, where Beverly found her true"home", a practice that nourishes her mentally, physically, and spiritually.

Her great passion is when she works with seniors who want to do more with their bodies. The expression on their faces when they realize they can move more freely without pain brings Beverly a joy beyond compare.

"Thrilled and honored to join the Padma Yoga family,"  Beverly hopes to bring these possibilities to her students.

Beverly has increased her yoga knowledge by completing;

  • "The Art of Teaching, Three Levels of Kripalu Yoga", with Deva Parnell
  • "Myofasciae, Prana and the Bandhas," with Jeffrey Shoaf

Karen Burtnett

Discovery Yoga CYT - 200

Kripalu Tradition

I remember my first encounter with yoga in the mid 60’s, my Mom and a friend giggling in our living room attempting to do some of the postures.  Curious, I peeked around the corner to find out what they were doing to make them so happy.

I’ve done some yoga at various times in my life, stretching before and after a run but it wasn’t until receiving a beginner’s yoga tape for my birthday from my son in 2002 that I started the journey I am on now.  I have been practicing regularly since then mostly Kripalu style and finally with a little coaxing from my friends attending the 200 hour yoga teacher training at Discovery Yoga in St. Augustine and currently pursuing my 500 hour master teacher certificate.  One of the best things I have ever                                                                          done for myself!

Yoga makes me happy!  I see yoga as a way of enhancing life; helping to discover all the beauty, love and mystery in our universe.  I have much love and respect for the yoga community and all the wonderful teachers and students I have met along the way.  Their commitment to yoga has encouraged and inspired me; all have a place in my heart.

Karen is currently pursuing her Master Level Certification having now completed:

  • "The Art of Teaching: Three stages of Kripalu Yoga" w/Deva Parnell
  • "Safe Yoga" w/Lisa McQuade
  • "Functional Anatomy and Therapeutic Yoga" w/Tra Kirkpatrick
  • "Myofasciae, Prana and the Bandhas" w/Jeffrey Shoaf

Carole Saal

Discovery Yoga CYT - 200

Kripalu Tradition

In 2001, while living in Mexico, Carole noticed a sign for yoga classes on the wall of the local market. She arrived at the address and followed a path through a beautiful garden that led to a thatched-roof hut where a group of women were sitting in a circle on the ground. Between the Sanskrit and Spanish, Carole had no idea what the teacher was saying but she joined in, watched their movements, listened to their breathing and at some point it didn’t matter anymore that she couldn’t understand the words because the whole experience began to make intuitive sense to her body, mind and spirit. She has been a student of yoga ever since.

Carole’s thirst for yoga led her to try and practice many forms of yoga over the years and developed further into a lifestyle. She credits yoga with introducing her to cherished friends and carrying her through the life challenge of grief. She is a 200 Hour Certified RTY in the Kripalu tradition and was trained under Micki Higgins in the Discovery Yoga Teacher Training Program at Padma Yoga. Her classes are theme focused so that each class is a little different but also incorporates foundational postures for students to notice their own developmental progress. She uses meditation, visualization, inspirational readings and breath work.

Carole is originally from Virginia, loves to grow orchids, cook and engage in festivities with family and friends. She also owns an event planning and hospitality business in the Sports Car Racing industry.

Michele has been a very active athlete all her life. Starting with ice skating then into gymnastics. Her first job was teaching aerobics. She then moved to Colorado to snowboard and mountain bike for 13 years. All of that high impact took a toll on her body. Michele believes in the power of regular massage and yoga to relieve joint pain. She has always been drawn to yoga and immediately felt at home when she walked into Padma Yoga. Michele would like to say

" I give thanks to Micki, Deborah, Beverly, Lidia and Deva at Discovery Yoga for sharing the love and knowledge of yoga with me. My life has and continues to change every time I get on my mat. Namaste...The light in me honors the light in you. Much love and see you in the studio!"

Kathryn found yoga about 10 years ago as she searched for “something” to resonate with her spiritual journey. She entered a new yoga studio in Flagler Beach and met a newly certified instructor. Her name: Micki Higgins.

Yoga became a special friend, a resource for spirit, a haven from everyday life, a loving path. Her yoga practice continues to amaze her as she accepts her role on this wonderful journey and opens herself to the All-good. Becoming an instructor fills her with joy for the opportunity to share this magic. "Thank you, Micki."
