Raja Yoga

This class practices the harnessing of the mind (Raja Yoga) and the body (Hatha Yoga) with the diaphragm (Pranayama) as a chariot commanded by your spirit - that indwelling fragment of divinity led by your personal will.

As Fred explains further:
Raja Yoga is a practice of mental postures.  A  simple example can be found in the children's book, "The Little Engine That Could".  This little blue engine is willing to try, and while repeating the mantra "I think I can, I think I can" overcomes a seemingly impossible task.

The word Hatha is a compound of the words Ha and Tha meaning sun and moon.  A simple series of physical postures will be practiced in a manner that rises in an intensity to match the noonday sun and diminishes back into the release of a soft moonlight night.

Pranayama will be practiced in a way that permits this intensity and release to be reached effortlessly.  The aim of this class is to personally experience the "Yoga Zone", that place of "Effortless Effort" or the "Gateless Gate" as it is known in Zen practice.
