Lakshmi Voelker Chair Yoga TM
is
Hatha Yoga
LVCY  was developed by Lakshmi Voelker in the 1980's after one of her students became unable to do her regular yoga practice due to worsening and debilitating arthritis.
Hatha Yoga (Ha (sun) tha (moon)) on a chair (or two) has
three principles which Lakshmi has expanded to cover LVCY practice.
1.The use of gravity to make the pose stable.*
~ The Sitting Mountain
2.The lengthening of the spine from this stable base.*
~ perfect postural balance
~ lifting the chest point and anchoring the sit bones
3. The use of breath which releases the spine so that it can lengthen and extend.*
~ Ujjayi  (ocean sounding breath)
~Dirgha Pranayam (3 part yogic breath)
~ Kapalabhati (skull shining breath)
~ Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breath)
*These three base principles were developed by Vanda Scaravelli after studing with B.K.S. Iyengar and T.K.V. Desikachar.
Lakshmi has used these principles along with the tenets of Kripalu yoga for LVCY.   It is now a recognized yoga in itself and not just a way of using a chair as a additional prop.
The chair "becomes an extension of your own body" as you sit on the chair and practice. As Lakshmi says..."Get fit where you sit!"

The LVCY method of chair yoga is instructed in the Mayo Clinic, NYC Department of Education and in many other health facilities around the world by yoga teachers who are certified LVCYT's
Lakshmi Voelker has studied with many yoga masters from America, India, Japan, Tibet, Taiwan, Korea, and China.
It is an honor and privilege to have personally studied with Lakshmi and the sharing of her knowledge of 40+ years in yoga.
Thank you, Lakshmi for all you have taught me.

"LVCY" is for everyone !

Are you...
 ... experiencing physical limitations?

... recovering from surgery, cancer or any other physical or medical condition that requires you to go in a different direction in your life?

... working in a office, bank or other similar setting?
(learn how to make your chair your best friend)

...on your feet all day?

... or just looking for a way of doing yoga that is more suited to your personal needs.
(such as when traveling and don't have room for your mat)

If you answered yes to any of the above, you owe it to yourself to try this unique and fun way of practicing yoga.
As Lakshmi says...
"Get fit where you sit!"
